What I Now Know For Sure – Inc.Africa Article

Sitting in the Okavango Delta, listening to fish eagles and watching warthogs can push anyone to indulge in a bit of self-reflection, and so it was for me.
I will celebrate my 50th birthday this year and decided to mark the new year in a place of quiet and beauty, hence the trip to a far-flung region of Botswana. I thought about the years that have passed, those still to come, and, in the process, realised that living, working, learning and travelling have provided many lessons.
What I now know for sure:
- The amount of time a person spends in my life is not necessarily proportional to their influence on me.
- None of us knows where our next best piece of advice will come from.
- I mustn’t worry that children won’t listen to what I say. I must worry that they will watch what I do.
- Not exercising is both a cause and effect of my life being out of balance.
- And I always, always get clarity after I sleep on something
Over and above my ‘learnings for life’ list, what I have learnt about office politics and power makes up a book.
