Many young, talented people fall into the trap of treating work like school: thinking that their technical skills are enough, assuming that hard work alone will get them ahead, and believing that their efforts will lead to the equivalent of a high letter grade. That’s a big mistake. As the adage goes, “What got you here, won’t get you there.”
Here are some things to remember as you embark on your career:
- You can’t succeed by yourself.
- Your work won’t speak for itself.
- There isn’t one right answer at work.
- You can’t rely on a textbook to learn.
